Frequently Asked Questions

  • Should I bring a case? Yes, students are expected to bring their own carrying case for their laptop. We recommend a neoprene or quilted sleeve with extra padding or a molded EVA-foam style hard shell case that will provide protection for the computer. We do not recommend the skins because they don't provide adequate protection.
Possible vendors:
Incase - For basic protection
Hard Candy - For moderate protection
G-form - For extreme protection
  • What grade levels will use laptops? We will begin the 1-1 initiative at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year with all 9th grade students having laptops at the high school. We will then add 1 - 2 grade levels the following year.
  • What type of device will the students use? Students will lease Apple MacBook Airs. The lower cost white MacBooks are no longer available as of January, 2012.
  • Why Apple and not a PC? Apple provides a complete educational solution, Apple machines are less prone to viral attacks, and come with excellent educational software for 21st Century learning activities incorporating diverse media productions. (See the Why Apple link in the side bar for more details)
  • What happens if the laptop is broken or needs repair? All laptops will come with AppleCare protection
  • What type of security or parental controls will exist? While in school the laptops will be subject to the security and protection protocols that are in place. The laptop's operating system also comes with parental control options that can be set to protect students from visiting dangerous sites on the Internet.
